Salvatore Joseph Alioto
September 24th, 1928 to November 1st, 2021
Salvatore J Alioto was born on September 24th 1928 to Frank Alioto and Mary Artese Alioto in the family home, 4412 Raleigh Street, Denver, Colorado. Like the six children preceding him, he attended Holy Family Elementary and High School. He attended Regis College, Denver and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1950.
Drafted into the Army in August 1951, he was chosen for the Army Counterintelligence Corps and was assigned to the Sixth Army, attached to the Presidio, San Francisco, and served as a Special Agent in San Francisco.
Returning home, he went to graduate school at the University of Colorado, Boulder, majoring in educational administration and accepted a teaching position in English and social studies at Aurora High School, Aurora, Colorado.
It was at this time he met Frances Anne Prather, a business education teacher in her third year at the school. They were married August 20, 1955, at Christ the King Church, Denver.
Their child, Alice Marie, was born on January 10, 1957. He was accepted in the doctoral program at the University of Denver and received the doctoral degree in August 1964. He was the first Aurora staff member to hold a doctoral degree.
It was in 1972 that Salvatore was appointed superintendent of schools in Farmington, New Mexico. He remained in that position until he was recruited by the Parsons, Kansas School Board to serve as superintendent of schools there.
In 1995, he and Frances moved to Aurora for their retirement. They both continued to enjoy an active life including travel, the Denver symphony, supporting DAM, exploring restaurants, cooking, political and social engagements until Frances passed away August 22, 2001. After some time, he and Dorothy Pearson of Aurora became companions until she passed 17 years later.
Salvatore is survived by his loving daughter, Alice Alioto of San Francisco. He was widely loved by all that knew him. He was a devoted husband, father, and friend. He will be greatly missed but never forgotten.
