Ruth Ellen Lyon

March 29, 1928 — April 23, 2025

Arvada

Ruth Ellen (Berke) Lyon was born March 29th, 1928 to Otto G. and Lydia (Zeeh) Berke at their farm home, south of Eustis, Nebraska. She was baptized at St. John's Lutheran Church on May 28th, 1928 and confirmed in 1942. She remained in her faith all her life.

Ruth grew up enjoying farm life, attending the rural school close to her home through the 8th grade. She attended Eustis High School and graduated in 1945 with a class of 17 students. After graduation, she was employed by “The Farmer's State Bank” in Eustis. She worked for three years as a bookkeeper and teller. At a friend's request, she moved to Denver, Colorado and was employed by the “Denver National Bank” as a teller for three years in the Savings Department. It was in Denver where she found her “love” and life's companion, Glenn J. Lyon. They were married at Messiah Lutheran Church in Denver, on May 5, 1951. Ruth and Glenn spent their first year of marriage in Anchorage, Alaska, where Glenn was stationed in the Armed Forces. After his tour of duty, they returned to Denver where they have made their home.

Ruth and Glenn were blessed with three daughters, Karen, Kim, and Kelly. They spent 58 wonderful years together before Glenn passed away on July 18, 2009. Ruth was a “stay-at- home Mom” and enjoyed raising their three daughters. She also helped teach Sunday School, Vacation Church School, singing in Church Choir, church sewing circle and Camp Fire Girls.

Ruth is survived by her daughters, Karen (Larry) Jordahl of Parker, Colorado, Kim (Randy) Schmuki of Denver and Kelly (Michael Jesmer) Hinz of Arvada; sister, Janet (Dean) Gerken; grandchildren, Melanie (Aaron) Frederick, Jessica (Shawn) McKinney, Jolene (Val) Sutcliffe, Julie (Andy) Betts, Nathan (Breanne) Hinz, Trista (Zach Rondeau) Hinz, Dillon McKinney, Landi McKinney, and Cameron McKinney; great grandchildren, Lee Betts, Elliott Betts, Athena Frederick, Violet Hinz, Archer Hinz, Aria McKinney, and Rosalyn Lopez; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her brothers, Floyd Berke and Glenn Berke.

God be with you ‘till we meet again.

When life's perils thick confound you,

Put his arms unfailing 'round you,

God be with you ‘till we meet again.

Ruth will join her husband, Glenn, at Ft. Logan National Cemetery.
