Ruth Ann Coomer

December 6, 1933 — May 1, 2025

Ruth Christiansen Coomer was born in Provo, Utah, to parents, Miriam and Ralph Christiansen. She attended Provo High School and Brigham Young University.

Ruth is survived by her two sisters, Carma Gailing, Cathy Hendrickson and a brother, Keith Christianson. Ruth has two grandchildren, Shane McEwen of Arizona and Brenna Pruden of Minnesota along with 3 great grandchildren. Ruth was preceded in death by her two siblings, Max and Sylvia as well as both of her sons, Steven and Daniel McEwen. Ruth’s beloved husband of many years, Wynn Coomer, a retired United Airlines Captain, passed away in 2003.

Ruth will also be greatly missed by her devoted and caring partner, Peter Atzman, who was faithfully by her side preceding and after Ruth’s accident in 2018.

Ruth had a passion for education. After moving to Denver, she continued to further her quest for knowledge by acquiring two master’s degrees. Ruth taught school in the Denver Public School system for many years. She later enjoyed family counseling where her empathetic and warm nature was of great benefit to her clients.

Ruth enjoyed an amazing talent for gardening; her backyard was the envy of many. She had a love of music and was an accomplished pianist. Ruth’s work at the Assistance League volunteering was very meaningful to her as were the friends she grew to know there.

When enjoying their boat in Florida with Wynn, Ruth became an excellent yet unwitting First Mate. Her patience was unrelenting. Together, they enjoyed the sun, water, sunsets and many friends in their Florida days.

Ruth had tremendous courage which allowed her to maintain a positive attitude when faced with great adversity. Her love, kindness and grace will be missed by all who know her.
