Russell Manley Hermanson

June 13, 1920 — March 14, 2017

Russell M Hermanson, son of Martin Hermanson and Hannah (Samuelson), had a long and productive life. As a young boy in Willmar, MN, he tinkered with and built hand held radios for himself and his 6 siblings. He later joined the USMC serving proudly in the So Pacific during WWII. He spent 15 years at Lockheed Martin in Sunnyvale, CA, and another 21 at Martin Marietta in Denver, CO as an aerospace engineer. He and his beloved wife, Jean, raised 7 children in MN, CA and CO. He continued his love of building as he constructed additions to his homes into his 90's, from full basements, complete patio enclosures and even sound system wiring, by himself, through his house and attic, at 90 years old! He was an avid golf fan, playing his last game on his 88th birthday, and a #1 Bronco fan. Russ passed away just shy of 97 years. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, M Jean (Stewart} Hermanson (1923-1979), daughter Kathryn Karampelas (1959-2003). He is survived by 6 children: Mary Allred (the late Paul Allred) Sacramento, CA, Robert Hermanson (Karen) Los Gatos, CA, Susan Vignale (Patrick Moore) Santa Cruz, CA, Julie Highline (Melvin) Federal Way, WA, Barbara Baldy (Gregory) Durham, NC, Amy Eitzel of Littleton, CO, 16 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren and his youngest sister, Pauline Bomstad of Los Osos, CA. He will be sorely missed by his loving family and friends. Visitation for family and friends will take place on Tuesday, March 21, 2017 from 6:00PM-8:00PM. A Celebration of Life for Russell will be held on Wednesday, March 22, 2017, 11:30AM. The Visitation and Celebration will be held at the Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 3101 S. Wadsworth Blvd. Lakewood, CO 80227. Immediately following the Celebration of Life, Graveside Services will take place at 1:15PM at Fort Logan National Cemetery, Staging Area 'C', 3698 S. Sheridan Blvd. Denver, CO 80236. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: The American Cancer Society and/or The Wounded Warrior Project.
