Rulon Val Hoyt passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at the age of 95. He is survived by his longtime companion, Darlene Andersen, son Val Richard Hoyt, daughter-in-law Diana Fouriezos Hoyt, grandson, Val Nicholas Sullivan Hoyt, and dear friends IC and Kathy Porter and Trisha Pearson. He is preceded in death by his wife, Edna Nifong Hoyt. Val was born in Salt Lake City, Utah in 1919, and graduated with his law degree from the University of Utah. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European-African-Middle Eastern Theatre and in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre, where he was awarded the Bronze Star. Following the war, Val continued to serve in the U.S. Army Reserve and retired with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Val served as a Special Agent of the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington, DC, before moving to Denver, Colorado to practice law. Val was one of the original members of the Arapahoe County Bar Association and served as its President from 1969-1970. Val was a founding partner of the law firm of Banta-Hoyt, and continued to practice law well into his eighties. Val was a terrific orator who loved to tell a story or recount a speech given years ago. He was witty, intelligent and quick to laugh. He was an avid golfer and played long into his later years. Val was a true renaissance man, with his love for music, the arts, poetry and so much more. He will be sadly missed by family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to The Alzheimer's Foundation of America.
