Richard Paul Grimm, age 87, died at Littleton Adventist Hospital in Littleton, Colorado, on April 16, 2022. He was born March 21, 1935 in Jersey City, New Jersey to Carl and Irene Grimm. He served four years in the United States Marine Corps. He married Mary Ann Bates in 1957. He was a graduate of Newark College of Engineering, now known as New Jersey Institute of Engineering. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering in 1961.
Deacon Grimm came to Colorado in 1978 after residing in New Jersey, Nevada, California, New Mexico and Arizona. He enjoyed skiing in the mountains of Colorado. In addition, he continued with his enjoyment of the martial art of Judo. He earned his Black Belt in Judo while living in Las Vegas in 1970. Before entering the diaconate program, Deacon Grimm was active in parish activities at St. Thomas More Parish in Centennial.
Deacon Grimm entered the diaconate program in 1981 and was ordained by Bishop James Casey in 1984. He served at St. Thomas More in Centennial, All Souls in Englewood, and St. Frances Cabrini in Littleton. He received his Master of Arts Degree in Pastoral Ministry from St. Thomas Seminary in 1993. He served as a Chaplain at the Colorado Mental Health Institute at Fort Logan and Littleton Adventist Hospital. He also completed a four year program at the Catholic Biblical School in 2013. While serving at St. Frances Cabrini, Deacon Grimm achieved the rank of 4th degree in the Knights of Columbus.
Deacon Grimm is survived by his wife, Mary, daughters Nancy Dooling of Kingman, Arizona and Kathleen Grimm of Centennial, Colorado, sons Christopher Grimm of Riverdale, Maryland, and Peter Grimm of Salado, Texas; nine grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Carl, and sister-in-law Tina, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Irene Grimm, brother Gerard and sisters Gabrielle and Bridget.
There will be a vigil service at 6:30pm on May 9, 2022 followed by a Rosary at 7:00pm at St. Frances Cabrini. Funeral service will be Tuesday, May 10, 2022 at St. Frances Cabrini in Littleton, Colorado at 10:30 am. A private burial service for immediate family will take place at Fort Logan National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to the Samaritan House in Denver, Colorado in Deacon Paul’s name.
