Roy Wittebort of Parker, Colorado formerly of Columbus, Ohio passed away Monday, November 1, 2021 at 92 years old.
Roy is the son of Fred and Hazel (Karrick) Wittebort and was born in Findlay, Ohio on September 26, 1929. He attended Findlay College and The Ohio State University graduating in 1955 with a degree in Business. While there he was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. Roy was a 1st Lt in the Army serving during the Korean Campaign; receiving a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart.
He worked as a stockbroker for the Ohio Company for 33 years. In 1974 he attended the Wharton School of Finance and was a graduate of the Securities Industry Institute. While living in Columbus he was a member of the Wolfe Quarter Century Club, Columbus Athletic Club, the OSU Alumni Association, and Upper Arlington Lutheran Church. Roy has lived in Denver for the past twelve years where he was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church.
Roy was an avid outdoorsman. He loved fishing, hunting, grilling, horseshoe pitching, golfing (with 2 holes-in-one to his credit!), and college football; most importantly his Ohio State Buckeyes! It was not unusual to see Roy all bundled up and out for a walk in sub-zero temperatures. The Upper Arlington Police would stop him wondering, “who is this crazing man out here?” He’d smile and let them know he was warm and perfectly fine. He was first and foremost a family man. A loving husband, dad, grandpa and great-grandpa; he was a caregiver at heart.
Roy is survived by his wife of 65 years, Nancy Wittebort; daughters Tammy (David) Craven, Sandy (Kevin Althoff) Wittebort, and Linda (Robert) Hurley. He has four granddaughters; Andrea (Scott) Ingalsbe, Megan (Michael) McCreesh, Kaitlyn Althoff, Abbigael Hurley and one grandson, Dylan Hurley.Six great grandchildren have been a part of Roy’s life; Camille, Spencer, Graham Ingalsbe and Adeline, Elena, Nolan McCreesh. Roy is preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Betty Rader and Jean Beckford.
Roy’s celebration of life will be held on Sunday, November 21 at 12:00 at Bethany Lutheran Church; 4500 E. Hampden Ave. The service will be live-streamed at bethanylive.org. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity.
