Roy W. Stockwell Jr.

Roy W. Stockwell, Jr. passed away at Porter Hospice on Tuesday, April 21, 2020 at the age of 96. He was born on November 25, 1923, to Roy and Grace (Adams) Stockwell in Anoka, Nebraska. He attended high school in Spencer, Nebraska, where he played football and basketball. He later attended business school in Grand Island, Nebraska, and then went to work for the federal government in Washington, DC. Roy joined the Navy in 1942 and was stationed at Great Lakes Naval Training Station in Illinois. He attended officers' training school at Central Michigan University, where he also played football. After his discharge from the Navy, he returned to work for the federal government in Washington, DC, and later worked in South Dakota, California, and Colorado. During this time, he married and raised five children. He enjoyed playing bridge with neighbors, golfing, fishing, and camping.

After retiring in 1978, Roy became co-owner of Modern Hairstyling, a business he ran with his sister Eva for several years. After divorcing in 1981, Roy moved from Longmont to Fort Collins, and later to Littleton, Colorado. He remained active and enjoyed many hobbies throughout his retirement. He was interested in genealogy and did extensive research on his family. He loved music and attended many dances, occasionally joining the band to sing a few tunes. He also liked to travel and visited England, Scotland, Australia, New Zealand, Alaska, and Hawaii.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents and his stepmother, Alwean (Ellwanger); his siblings, Anna Anderson Naber, Mildred Speed, Eva Stockwell, John Stockwell, Vaughn Stockwell, and Vere Stockwell; and his oldest daughter, Janis Stockwell. He is survived by his daughters, Peggy Schick, Julie Stockwell, and Linda (Jeff) Hill, and his son, Roy ""Skip"" Stockwell; five grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held for the family on Thursday, April 30, at 11 a.m. at Horan and McConaty in Lakewood, followed by burial at Fort Logan National Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to the All Veteran's Honor Guard in care of David Rabe at Horan and McConaty.
