She is survived by her three children; Barbara (Frank) Martinez, Christine (Paul) Mayer and John (Vivian) Lehan who all live in the area; her grandchildren; Michael (Marianne Petit) Lawson, Dennis Lawson, Daniel (Cecilia) Mayer, Gregory (Manisha Ghorai) Mayer, Andrew (Tamara Rivale) Mayer, Brett Lehan, Sean Lehan, and Connor Lehan; and great-grandchildren; Emery and Easton Mayer, Dahlia and Kiaan Mayer, and Sebastian Mayer. Rosemary was preceded in death by her devoted husband Robert Benson.
Rosemary was very proud to achieve her bachelor’s degree in accounting in her early 50’s. After attending midnight mass on Christmas in only a sweater while visiting Colorado, she decided to relocate here and look for a job in accounting. She became a state auditor and loved sharing her organizational skills by offering suggestions to help streamline the bookkeeping practices for small businesses. Over the years she had many avocational interests including horseback riding, teaching ceramics, making porcelain dolls, creating photo books and attending the theatre and opera. She enjoyed the two trips she took to Germany, especially the one centered on doll-making. At ninety-two years old, she travelled across the country by train to visit her brother in New York.
Rosemary loved the holidays. She hosted Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter when she lived in New York. She decorated the house and dressed as a witch to give out candy on Halloween. But, without a doubt her favorite holiday was Christmas: every room was decorated, there were multiple trees, and holiday linens throughout the house. She always hosted a Christmas family gathering with multiple gifts for each family member and many that she crafted individually to match their particular interests.
