Rose Check

Rose Check, 95, of Denver, Colorado, passed away February 22, 2023 (Ash Wednesday) peacefully at her home.

Born Rose Mary Gouglas on October 23, 1927 in the municipality of Eriksdale in the province of Manitoba, Canada, Rose was the seventh child of nine and second youngest daughter of Bernice Lipinski and Joseph Gouglas. Bernice was pregnant with Rose when they emigrated from Poland to Manitoba Canada to escape the invading Russian Cossacks.

Rose met her first husband, Walter Josefchuk, in 1946 at Canada Packers in Winnipeg. They were married in 1947 at the Holy Ghost Church in Winnipeg. In search of a better life they found new opportunities in Winnipeg and Toronto in Canada and Chicago and Berwyn in the USA. Rose and Walter had three children: Walter “Brian”, Linda, and Darryl. They both worked hard to support themselves and their children and they enjoyed family life until Walter’s early passing in 1970. Rose was a member of Saint Mary of Celle in Berwyn, IL.

A couple years later Rose fell in love with her second husband, Richard Check. They met through long time childhood friends from Winnipeg living in Chicago at that time. Rose married Richard in 1972 in a little white church in Wisconsin where Richard was born. Richard and Rose lived on the North Side of Chicago until Richard’s Death in 2003. They enjoyed family and friends and made traveling, fishing, picnics, the Chicago Cubs, bingo and gaming part of their past times. Rose was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary in Chicago, IL.

In 2004, Rose moved to Denver, Colorado to live with her daughter Linda. Rose continued her love of family, friends, bingo and gaming in and around the beautiful mountains of Colorado. While in Denver she also loved going to dinner house plays like the Phantom of the Opera, Oklahoma and going to the Symphony. Rose loved all people and made numerous new and best friends here. Rose was a member of St Francis de Sales where she loved to sing. At St Francis de Sales she joined the Alter and Rosary Club and contributed to fund-raising events.

Rose is survived by her three children: Walter Brian Josefchuk (June), of Cochrane AB Canada; Linda Josefchuk, of Denver CO; and Darryl Josefchuk (Amy), of Pisgah Forest, NC. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Kelli (Dan) and Jessica (Chris), and two great-grandchildren, Ella and Elise, her brother John Gouglas (Eve) of Toronto ON Canada and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held on Tuesday February 28, 2023 at St Francis de Sales, 301 S. Grant St. Denver, CO 80209. Relatives and friends are welcome to attend the visitation and rosary service starting at 2:00 pm and/or the mass starting at 3:oo pm. Burial will be take place at later date at Glen Lawn Funeral Home & Cemetery, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. Winnipeg, Manitoba. R2J 4J4.

The family welcomes donations to the charity of their choosing in the name of Rose Check as an expression of sympathy instead of flowers.
