Ronald Skabo

December 9, 1934 — February 17, 2023

Ronald Ricks Skabo, age 88, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, February 17, 2023, after a battle with leukemia.

Ronald was born on December 9, 1934 in Devil’s Lake, North Dakota, to Edwin & Grace Skabo. He had one older sister, Dona Mae. As a child he moved around due to his father’s work, living in North Dakota, Wyoming and Montana. He graduated from Cutbank High School in 1952, and from Montana State University in 1957, with a degree in Chemical Engineering. In the summer of 1955, he worked as an intern at Signal Oil Company in Tioga, North Dakota, where he met the love of his life, Verona Quale at Myrtle’s Cafeteria. They were married on June 30, 1958.

Ron & Verona moved to Trenton, Michigan in 1960 where he worked for Wyandotte Chemical. Two daughters joined their family, Randine in 1964 and Kari in 1966. A job opportunity opened up at Stearns-Roger in Denver, Colorado, and they made Lakewood their home for 49 years. During his career, he became a Professional Engineer in multiple states, was a Corrosion Specialist and a member of ASTM and NACE. Ron retired from CH2MHill in 2009. After their daughter Kari’s passing in 2020, Ron & Verona moved to Loveland, Colorado to be closer to Randine and Reanna.

Ron enjoyed music throughout his life, singing in school, church and community choirs, and the MountainAires Barbershop Chorus. He was also the choir director for the “Prime Time Choir” at Holy Shepherd Lutheran Church in Lakewood for a number of years. Ron was an avid wood worker and also enjoyed leather tooling, creating faith chests for new babies in the church. Throughout their years together Ron and Verona loved to travel – Italy, Norway, Hungary, Iceland, Australia, Canada & Hawaii, just to name a few.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents, sister, and daughter Kari. He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 65 years, Verona, daughter Randine, and granddaughter Reanna.

Services will be held at 2pm on Thursday, March 2nd, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 3333 Duffield Ave., Loveland, Colorado.
