Roderick L. Cowherd

Roderick Cowherd, 65, of Aurora, Colorado, passed away at his residence surrounded by his family on November 17, 2014. He was born on February 18, 1949, in Aurora, Illinois to Henry and Carolyn Cowherd, Jr. He graduated from Aurora East High School, Aurora, IL in 1967 and enlisted in the Army on November 29th 1969. He served in Vietnam and was with the 82nd Airborne, 75th Rangers. He was the recipient of a bronze star with valor and three purple hearts. He recently retired from Century Elementary in Aurora Public Schools where he was a family counselor. He was loved by the staff and his students, and will be dearly missed. Rod was the loving and devoted husband of Becky Albracht; father of Anthony and Stephen Cowherd; father to Seth and Jordan Venhaus; ""Papa"" of Rima, Lailani and Kenya Cowherd, Cyris and Gage Venhaus – all of Aurora, Colorado; son of Henry and Carolyn Cowherd, Jr. of Aurora, Illinois; brother of Brenda (Rufus) Banks of Naperville, Illinois and James Michael Cowherd (Rick Sanders) of Denver, Colorado; and uncle of Shelley (Rodney) Johnson of Mason, Ohio and Scott Banks of Chicago, Illinois. A Memorial Service to celebrate Rod's life will be held on Monday, November 24, 2014, 9:00AM at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 11150 E Dartmouth Avenue, Aurora, Colorado; interment will follow with Army honors 11:15AM at Ft.
