Casper and Denver area native, Rocky Dean Bertz, passed away on May 19th, 2025, after a hard-fought battle with cancer, with his family by his side. A Celebration of Life will be held on August 3rd, 2025, from 2:00 PM - 6:00 PM at Lone Tree Family Golf Course in Lone Tree, CO, to honor him. Requests to RSVP and for additional information about the celebration can be emailed to RockyBertzMemorial@gmail.com.
Rocky was born on December 12th, 1957 in Casper, Wyoming, named after the world heavyweight boxing champion of the time, Rocky Marciano. He attended Natrona County High School as a member of the Class of 1976, and attended Casper College as the first person in his family to go to pursue higher education. While at Casper College, he met his first wife, Brenda Willadsen, and together they had a daughter, Dezarai Nicole.
Later, following his graduation from the University of Wyoming, Rocky relocated to Denver to start his career. In Denver, he met his second wife, Kathleen Clinton, and together they had a son, Nathan Ryan. After a brief period of living in the Northwest, he moved back to Denver and spent the majority of his career at CH2MHill in accounting and quality assurance. His time in Denver and at CH2MHill brought him many of his lifelong friends whom he affectionately referred to as his “homies.”
In 2003, he met his third wife and love of his life, Alyson Dudley. They married in 2004 and shared a life together until the end of his days. Their 20+ years together were the happiest of his life.
Rocky enjoyed traveling extensively across the U.S. and most recently, Europe. His family was the most important part of his life, and he always made sure to spend as much time with them as he could. He loved his country, golfing, home improvement projects, and finding all of the best places to eat and the greatest beer to sample. His sense of humor was one of the greatest things about him. No subject was ever off-limits and, even as he neared the end of his life and during the toughest of times, he was still always making his friends and family laugh. He loved coming up with random nicknames for his closest friends and family and, if he ever gave you one, you knew that he had a lot of love for you. The nickname was yours, and it’s what he would call you from there on out.
Rocky was preceded in death by his father, Woodrow (lovingly nicknamed Sanders) Bertz. Survivors include his wife, Alyson (Bunny), of Littleton; daughter, Dezarai (D’Angel), son-in-law, Jeff (Utah), and grandchildren, Brody (Pickle), Brooklyn (Franny), and Brynley (Bear), Brubaker, of Fort Collins; son, Nathan (Sparkles) Bertz, and daughter-in-law, Ashley (Marty) Anaya, of Denver; mother, Donna (Ma), and brother, Woody (Louie), Bertz, of Casper; sister, Lori (Boots), and brother-in-law, John (Hank), Loomis, of Burlington, North Carolina; step-son, Elliot (Da Bunk) Summons, of Littleton; step-son, Phillip (Wilbur), step-daughter-in-law, Aime, and step-grandson, John (Johnny Rocket), Summons of Parker, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews that will miss him greatly.
The family has requested no flowers or gifts. Instead, we ask you to enjoy your favorite meal, crack open your favorite drink, and raise a toast to how great Rocky was to all of us. We welcome anyone to share photos and/or video recordings of their favorite memories of Rocky that we will present at his Celebration of Life. Please email them to RockyBertzMemorial@gmail.com.
