Robert "Scott" Redding

July 29, 1951 — May 31, 2021

Littleton, Colorado

Robert Scott Redding passed away on May 31, 2021. He was born in Columbus Ohio on July 29, 1951. He came from a very large family, Scott being the oldest of 9 children. In 1965 when Scott was 14 years old, his father passed away, and their mother moved the family to Casper Wyoming. The next few years would bring many hardships and struggles to his young life.  Just after he turned 18, he enlisted in the US Navy. He served from 1969-1973, all 4 years on the USS Lexington.  He once said, "Joining the Navy saved my life in so many ways". It was his proudest moment, and I know it made him a better man.

Scott had a big heart. He was kind and caring and never said an unkind word about anyone, he was deeply forgiving. He was a huge animal lover especially to his beloved pets.

Scott's social awkwardness could make him appear distant. He was a man of few words but the people that got to know him knew that was just his way.

After he got out of the Navy, he moved to Denver with his first wife and children, Danny, and Tonya.  In 1979 he met Melissa "Missy", they were married on April 12, 1982, and they lived the next 42 years in Littleton Colorado.

He worked for a short time as a House Painter, then Security for John's Manville.  He then found his true passion where he quickly worked his way up to VP of a landscape company where he worked for the next 30 years.  It wasn't uncommon for him to work 7 days, 60 hours a week.  He managed everything from crews, clients, operations, and greenhouses all while maintaining a beautiful home and landscape. When he semi-retired, he got a part time job at Home Depot where he enjoyed the people he worked with and keeping busy.

Scott had many hobbies and talents that he was passionate about. Besides gardening, he loved to grow and show plants, such as Orchids, Bonsai Trees, African Violets, and other exotic species, winning many awards along the way.  He also loved fishing, camping, music, reading, military history and sports especially the Reds, Rockies, Indians, Browns and Broncos.

Around the year 2000, Scott found out his ship had been decommissioned and was turned into a museum in Corpus Christi, Texas. He immediately joined a reunion group that gets together once a year. He loved getting together with his fellow shipmates to reminisce. He and Missy took many wonderful vacations and made numerous lifelong friends along the way.

Scott valiantly fought cancer for a year and a half. He certainly had ups and downs, but true to his gentle nature he never complained, he just carried on in his usual stoic fashion.

Scott is preceded in death by his parents, Daniel A. Redding, and Bonnie Dee Redding. He is survived by wife Missy; children, Daniel Redding, and Tonya (John) Mullins; grandchildren, Andrew Gonzales, Damon Mullins and Tristan Mullins; numerous brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, a large extended family, and his beloved dog Tip.
