Roberta Jean Hampstead

Roberta Jean Hampstead of Lakewood, Colorado passed peacefully on September 19, 2026. She was 97 years old.

Born April 29, 1929 in Turtle Lake, North Dakota, she was one of eight children of Robert Ralph Maxwell and Stella Maud Houston, growing up on their farm. After graduating high school, Roberta moved to Bismarck, North Dakota, where she worked for Bell Telephone. Eventually she moved on to work for The California Company, (Chevron Oil), where she would meet her future husband, Howard (Al) Hampstead. After marriage, Roberta and Al’s careers took them to various states before settling in Lakewood, Colorado where they raised three children.

Roberta was an avid bowler, and would often travel to tournaments with her sisters. Her other passion was being a fan of the Colorado Rockies baseball team. Many a day if you saw her, she would be wearing their apparel. After retirement, she enjoyed traveling, and spending time with all of her family. Her greatest attribute was the kindness she showed to everyone she met.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Al Hampstead, her parents, and all of her siblings. Roberta was survived by her three children, Laura Relue (Richard), Craig Hampstead (Lisa), John Hampstead (Ann Callahan), eight grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
