Robert "Bob" Lee Sorrell

Robert “Bob” Sorrell passed away on July 2, 2025, at University Hospital following a lengthy and courageous health battle. He was surrounded by the love of his family and close friends in his final moments.

Born on June 6, 1949, in Denver, Colorado, Bob was a proud graduate of Lincoln High School, where he lettered in both baseball and basketball. He later earned his degree in Fisheries Biology from Colorado State University. Bob spent many years working for the Barnett Lumber Company and eventually became co-owner of Barco Fence with Dale Terry until he retired in 2017.

Bob was a proud 32nd Degree Master Mason, a member of Columbine Masonic Lodge No. 147 A.F. & A.M., and a member of the Scottish Rite. His integrity, humility, and devotion to community were reflected in all he did.

A lifelong outdoorsman, the natural world was his sanctuary—especially when it came to fishing and hunting. Bob was a registered member of the Potawatomi Tribe, and he embraced their traditions, particularly the practices of hunting and archery. Bob also always looked forward to his annual trip to Smith Center, Kansas, where he spent special time bird hunting with his longtime friends from Kansas and Colorado. For over 35 years, he returned the same week each November, upholding a treasured tradition that spoke to his deep bond with his fellow sportsmen and his love for the outdoors.

While attending CSU, Bob met Mary, the love of his life and wife of over fifty-six years. Together they raised two sons, John and Jason, and built a life rooted in love, laughter, and shared adventure.

He had many passions—tying flies, floating down the Rio Grande, and dancing with Mary. He found joy in traveling with dear friends Steve and Mickey, his Sunday morning FaceTime chats with Steve Lopez—with Cathie often happily joining in—and spontaneous trips to the hills.

A true fan of Colorado sports, Bob cheered faithfully for the Nuggets, Rockies, and Broncos. His taste in music was as varied as his spirit—country, rap, soul, and classics—and he never passed up a good glass of bourbon shared among friends.

Above all, Bob’s greatest joy came from his family. He was a devoted and loving grandfather to Kyle, Connor, Laiq, and Mila—attending their sporting events, performances, holiday get-togethers, and every special moment in between. He was also a proud godparent to Ian, Devin, and Jessica, offering unwavering love and support through the years.

Bob is survived by his beloved wife Mary; sons John and Jason, and daughter-in-law Amber; grandchildren Kyle, Connor, Laiq, and Mila; Robyn, mother of Kyle and Connor; sisters Debbie (George) and their daughter Lindsay; Jean (Bill) and their daughter Shannon and (Matt), and grandchildren Nolan and Caitlyn. He will also be lovingly remembered by many extended family members and dear friends.

Bob will be cherished for his sharp sense of humor, gentle kindness, and sentimental heart. He found joy in the little things, love in the people around him, and meaning in every moment. As romantic as he was grounded, his final text to Mary captured the essence of a life well-lived: “Good night, my love, I’ll see you tomorrow.”

A celebration of Bob’s life will be held on Sunday, August 3, 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Horan & McConaty Heartlight Center at 11150 E. Dartmouth Avenue, Aurora, 80014. The Sorrell family requests that you honor Bob by spending time in nature, telling a good story, raising a glass in his memory, and loving your people well.

He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
