Robert Lee Shepherd

November 27, 1955 — July 26, 2021

Robert Lee Shepherd beloved son, father, brother & friend passed away on July 26, 2021 at the age of 65.
Bob was born November 27, 1955 to  Maurene (Pete) and Robert Shepherd in Denver, Colorado. He grew up in Westminster with his 3 sisters until the family moved when he was a teenager to Denver/Bear Valley area.

Bob attended Kennedy High School, was a proud Commander, highly involved in managing the baseball & tennis teams, student council treasurer, junior prom king (yes, Bobby was a prom king) & was presented “The Commander Award” by his teachers & peers. There he also met his high school sweetheart, Anne Brady (Pierce). After graduating in 1973, Bob enlisted in the United States Coast Guard and married Anne. He was stationed in Atlantic City, NJ, where their daughter, Jennifer, was born in 1974.

Once out of the service in 1977, they moved back to Colorado and made their home in Englewood, Colorado. Their son, Nicholas, was born in 1980. Bob used his GI bill to put himself through college while working; earned a Bachelors’ of Arts degree from Metro State College, followed by a Masters of Arts Degree in Human Resource Development and was also a licensed Paralegal.

Bob lived a life that was grounded by his deep love for Jennifer & Nick. He was as genuine in sharing his whimsical playful wisdom as he was filled with intellect and passion. Bob wouldn’t hesitate to carry on a heated political argument while wearing a “fuzzyhair” CSU football visor that matched his daughters! He was filled with deep love and encompassing views of the world – including and not limited to his entrepreneurial cannabis forte to his short story writing. Bob lived a full life and was full of life… giving himself the name; Bobby Bag of Donuts or Bear Valley Bob.

He loved all Colorado sports; Broncos, Rockies & Avalanche…winning or not…he was a fan! He was the biggest fan of his son Nick as he toured in the U.S. Army defending our freedom to live the lives we do. Bob loved freedom; the freedom to cruise in his Miata and grow his hair out long.

He wore his heart and emotions on his sleeve for the world to see. He loved out loud! Bob was a bit of a worrier…and a planner. His desire to make sure Nick and Jennifer were taken care of was voiced and shared over the years…in sweet letters and while consuming a few beers. He, like others in his family, was a great “Dog Dad.” He loved LuLu so much he “named her twice” as she was the one who shared the last moments with Bob. He studied Christianity and embraced the Lord. If you met Bob…you loved Bob. Good and Bad…he taught all of us unconditional love. Although several conversations ended in disgust or angst…Bob was Bob.

So… What about Bob? Bob empathetically helped so many people facing bankruptcy and had been helping prisoners with his legal intellect. He cared about humanity and prided himself on learning something new each day. Remember the good stuff… love of a good microbrew with friends  – Texan vs Bronco games – trivia nights - fantasy football leagues (winner, winner, chicken dinner) – “Zen” Gardening - Thunder Road & every Bruce Springsteen song written – long dog walks – live music & numerous concerts – the loudest laugh in the room – a lot of fun and a ton of passion. We love you Bobby, a bushel & peck!

Bob is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Shepherd; son, Nicholas (Sharon) Shepherd; grandson, Jonah Mafort; sisters, Cheryl (Frank) Grothe, Cindy (Dan) Branaman, Karen (Michael) Butts; nephew, Jake Kilgore; niece, Rachel (Brandon) Laut; three great-nephews, Ezra, Joah & Abner Laut; along with many beloved family members, friends and his four-legged soulmate, LuLu. He will rest in peace next to Darla, Kosmo, Mike and Petie as he wished.

Service will be Tuesday, August 17th, 12:30pm, Horan & McConaty, 5303 E. County Line Road, Centennial, CO. Followed by a Celebration and final “Cheers to Bob” at The Farmhouse at Breckenridge Brewery; 2990 Brewery Lane, Littleton from 2:00pm to 5:00pm.

Burial will follow the next morning on Wednesday, August 18th at 9:15am at Fort Logan National Cemetery; 4400 W. Kenyon Ave., Denver; in Pavilion C.
