Monument

Robert Joseph Schmidt, 73, went to be with Jesus on May 22, 2025. He was born in Clovis, New Mexico on February 9th, 1952 to Alban and Mary Schmidt. Rob attended Western State College University in Gunnison, CO. After graduating college he began working in the food service industry, and while working as a cook at Mr. Steak,, he met his devoted wife Lynn. They were married on December 17th, 1977 and soon welcomed two daughters, Danielle and Kristin. During his working career, he became the CPA and Vice President for Vista Restaurants. There, he combined his love for accounting, mathematics and food service, achieving abundant success and many lifelong friendships. Though his career was important to him, he was a family man at heart. He loved having family dinners, helping his children with homework, watching evening game shows and hosting BBQ’s and family gatherings. He enjoyed spending weekends working in the yard, and building and collecting models of Shelby Cobras. He would often attend swap meets and car shows. He also loved camping, hiking, fishing and being outdoors. He took many family trips all over Colorado, from Mesa Verda, to the Great Sand Dunes, to ski trips at the family cabin in Breckenridge. Rob was known to the family as the “grill master,” and over the years, he perfected the art of smoking meats on the grill. Nobody could resist his delicious BBQ, and he was always in charge of cooking the meat at the family gatherings Rob and Lynn hosted at their home. He became famous among family and friends for “Rob’s Ribs” and his smoked beef brisket. As time went on, he became fascinated with Mt Everest, and stories of mountain climbers. He became an avid hiker and hiked many Colorado 14ers. Rob and Lynn also shared many fond memories of long jeeping trips with friends and his beloved Jeep. He retired several years ago, and enjoyed many traveling experiences with Lynn. He also loved spending time at home playing solitaire, grilling, watching Youtube videos, and hanging out with Autumn, their cat. Rob is survived by his wife, Lynn, daughters Danielle Guderian and Kristin Schmidt Brandt, sons-in-law Bradford and Tracy, sisters Sue, Lisa, and Katie, brothers Dave and Steve, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his mother and father, and his brother John. A combined memorial service and reception to celebrate Rob’s life will be held on Saturday, June 14th, 2025 from 11:00am - 1:00 pm.
