Schaffner, Robert (Bob), 92, a 25-year resident of Littleton, CO, passed away peacefully on November 27, 2017, after a long illness, with his loving daughter by his side. Born July 23, 1925, in Brooklyn, New York, lived 30 years in Lincroft, NJ, son of the late Albert and Maria Schaffner. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 57 years, Eileen, brother Al, daughter Claudia Ward, and grandchildren Eric Bergman and Samantha Ward. Loving father of Randy (Shelly) Schaffner, Craig (Michelle) Schaffner, Janet (Tom) Gibbons, and Debbie (Andy) Deltuvia; cherished grandfather of Stephen (Chrissy) Schaffner, Greg Schaffner, Randy (Ashley) Schaffner, Kevin Schaffner, Sandy Ward, Mitchel Deltuvia, Rachel Deltuvia, Garett Deltuvia, and Julie Deltuvia, and one other, and great grandfather of Madison Schaffner and Sydney Schaffner. He attended Brooklyn Technical High School, then served with distinction in the U.S. Army’s 84th Infantry Division from 1943 to 1945, and was a private first class rifleman in combat in France and Germany during World War II. He was awarded a bronze star and a purple heart. After the war, he attended the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn, graduating with bachelor’s and master's degrees in civil engineering. Following college, he began his engineering career with the New York Railroad. He finished his career as Vice President of Investment Properties for JP Morgan & Company in New York City, yet always the consummate engineer, with a keen eye for commercial real estate. He met Eileen in Brooklyn where she taught him to dance and they enjoyed many a soiree dining and dancing away. They fell in love and were soon married on August 18, 1948. They later moved to Lincroft, New Jersey, where they raised their five children. Along with his wife and children, he enjoyed the beach, boating, horseback riding, and traveling. Upon retirement, he and Eileen moved to Colorado where he enjoyed hiking, fishing, and touring Colorado’s mountain towns. He was a devoted member of the Catholic Church all his life, with a great devotion to daily Mass and the rosary. A long-time member of the Knights of Columbus at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, he volunteered at many blood drives, breakfasts, fish fries, and dances. He enjoyed storytelling and would often frequent McDonald’s after Mass with his coffee buddies to spin a few tales. He appreciated the compassionate care provided to him by Leawood Assisted Living in Littleton.
