Robert Lyle Albin

Robert Lyle Albin, of Denver, Colorado, passed away on July 23, 2026, at the age of 85. Born on January 14, 1941, in El Centro, California, Bob spent his early years in rural Missouri and attended high school in the small town of Clinton.

Determined and hardworking from a young age, Bob paid his own way through college over seven years, studying at the University of Missouri, Central Missouri State University, and Missouri Valley College, where he earned a B.A. in History and Political Science in 1965. Following college, he married his high school and college sweetheart, Karen Keck, and together they moved to Denver, the city they would always call home.

Bob began a long and distinguished career in business with the founding, alongside six partners, of American Salesmasters, Ltd., a world-wide sales and management training firm. The company produced large sales rallies across thirty-five major cities in the United States, Canada, and Australia, featuring renowned authors and speakers, and later expanded to eighteen countries through audio tapes, films, and videos of American sales and management experts. As the company grew, Bob and Karen lived in Los Angeles, Dallas, Washington, D.C., and Boston, but their hearts remained in Denver.

After American Salesmasters was sold to a public company in 1980, Bob continued as CEO before launching his own management consulting firm, Albin Management Consultants, in 1982. Through this firm, he advised law firms, international accounting firms, construction companies, technology firms, financial services organizations, and professional sports franchises on sales and management practices. In 1995, the firm was acquired by First Data Corp., where Bob was appointed division president for Domestic Retail Services, overseeing MoneyGram and American Express Money Orders, later serving as President of First Data Payment Services and Chief Operating Officer of Western Union North America.

Widely regarded as an authority on sales and general management, Bob spent much of his career as a paid professional speaker and was a charter member of the National Speakers Association, headquartered in Phoenix. Deeply engaged in the Denver community, he served on more than thirty boards of directors for both for-profit and not-for-profit organizations and held leadership roles as past chairman of the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce, Mountain States Employers Council, Mile High United Way Campaign, Junior Achievement-Rocky Mountain, and the Mayor’s Committee for Design of Denver International Airport. He was also a past national president of the Fraternity of Phi Gamma Delta (“Fiji”), based in Lexington, Kentucky, with undergraduate chapters at over 170 colleges and universities in the United States and Canada. He was inducted into the Colorado Business Hall of Fame in 2022 for his lifetime of business success and community investment.

Bob and Karen divided their time between homes in Denver and San Diego, and he was a long-time member of Cherry Hills Country Club in Denver and Pauma Valley Country Club in Southern California. He will be remembered for his warmth, integrity, leadership, and his commitment to mentoring others, as well as his devotion to family and community.

Bob is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Karen; his three children, Jeff (Carolyn), Katie (David), and Clint (Whitney); and five cherished grandchildren, Thomas, Charlie, Hadyn, Haley, and Jane. He will be deeply missed by his extended family, countless colleagues, and many friends whose lives he touched over the course of his remarkable career and life.

Family and friends are invited to a reception on August 20th from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Cherry Hills Country Club. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages contributions to Junior Achievement Rocky Mountain in honor of Bob’s lifelong dedication to leadership, education, and community service.
