Robert Groth

September 24, 1944 — March 20, 2023

Westminster, Colorado

Robert John Groth was born on September 24, 1944, in West Bend, Wisconsin, and passed away peacefully on March 20, 2023 in Denver, Colorado, surrounded by his family and close friends. He was 78.  He married Jeanne E. Harris, a Geophysicist, in 1982 and was happily married for 37 years until she passed away on October 9, 2019. He had one child, David Groth (Amanda) and one grandson, Wilder Groth, all of London, England. In 1967, Robert completed his degree in Geology at the University of Wisconsin, then started his masters at the University of New Mexico. His education was abruptly cut short due to the Vietnam War. Robert was drafted into the Army where he received two Purple Hearts. After his second serious injury, the military sent him to Germany, where he discovered his love for travel, photography and adventure. In fact, he and his future wife were both at the same Octoberfest in 1971, where she was traveling by backpack throughout Europe on her motorcycle.

After the military, he finished his masters in Geology and started working as a wellsite geologist. In the late 1970’s, Robert split his time between wellsite rigs and a condo he purchased in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. When he was not on the wellsite, he could be found either skiing or hiking in the Colorado mountains. In 1986 he co-founded G&H Production Company with his wife, where he was the Chief Geologist.

An incredibly kind and generous man, Robert had the gift of making those around him happy. He was someone who focused on the positive with a “can do” attitude. He never stopped exploring and travelling, completing many trips to London to visit his son, daughter-in-law and grandson, and going on countless adventures with his wife.

Robert was the eldest of three Groth boys. His younger brother James Groth of Grayslake, Illinois and his youngest brother Raymond Groth of Charlotte, North Carolina. They were the children of Roland Groth and Lillian Groth. He was especially close to his nephews, Jim Groth, Jr. and Eric Groth, and his niece Sarah Groth.
