Robert (Bob) D. Glock, 89, of Westminster, Colorado, passed away on May 11th after a 7-year battle with cancer.
He was born November 1, 1936, to Esther (Hinze) and Theodore Glock in David City, NE. In 1961, Bob earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from Iowa State University, Ames, IA. He then served as a Captain doing virology research for the US Army at Fort Detrick in Frederick, MD. After his service, he worked in general practice in Edgerton, WI before returning to Iowa State University to earn his PhD in Veterinary Pathology.
Later, Bob worked in higher education and private industry; Iowa State University, Ames, IA as a professor of veterinary medicine; Central Arizona Veterinary Laboratories, Casa Grande, AZ, as Lab Director, Colorado State University, Fort Collins, CO as Director of the Diagnostic Laboratory. And, finally, retiring at age 80, from the University of Arizona, Tucson, AZ, where he served for many years as Director of the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory.
Bob was passionate and dedicated to the food animal science industry and enjoyed collaborating with his colleagues. During his professional career, he received many awards and was especially proud of the following:
1977 - President of the American Association of Swine Practitioners
1995 - Howard Dunn Memorial Award, American Association of Swine Practitioners
2003 - Stange Award for Meritorious Service, College of Veterinary Medicine, Iowa State University
2019 - Cattle Production Veterinarian Hall of Fame
Bob is survived by a host of family including his brother Eugene (Melba), Rising City, NE; children, Karen (Roy Lewis) of Kansas City, MO, Jeff (Karen) of Ankeny, IA and Doug (Patti) of Westminster, CO; grandchildren Dillan (Jack) Espeset of Decorah, IA, Nolan (Rachel) of Layton, UT and Quinn, Ankeny, IA; great-grandchildren Kale, Finn and Brock Espeset.
Bob loved adventure in its many forms; he took every opportunity to hike, bike or Jeep in the mountains or the desert; he was an avid reader, and, as a pilot, he enjoyed flying well into his 70s.
Bob blessed us all with his passion for life, his humor and his service to veterinary medicine!
