Robert Hitchcock Barnard

February 18, 1955 — March 29, 2014

Robert H. ""Bob"" Barnard of Highlands Ranch, Colorado passed away at the age of 59 on March 29, 2014 after a valiant battle with cancer. Bob was born on February 18, 1955 in Denver, Colorado to Duane and Leahbeth Barnard. Bob grew up on a cattle ranch near Granby, Colorado where he attended grade school before the family moved to Boulder, Colorado. Bob has two brothers, Duane and Chuck. Bob graduated from Arapahoe High School in 1973 and attended The University of Northern Colorado where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in Business in 1977. Shortly after graduation, Bob passed the Certified Public Accountants exam and began a successful career in business moving up the ranks to become a controller. In the last few years he was self-employed as a tax accountant. After working for a number of years in Denver, Bob was not one to settle down quite yet. He moved to Redondo Beach in Southern California to experience the beach life. He worked as a manager for a cable TV company in Los Angeles when he didn't have a tee time! Colorado never left his system, so he returned to Denver and bought a home in Highlands Ranch. Bob's happiest moment came on July 14, 2006 when he married Angela Ornellas on the family ranch in Granby, Colorado. Angela has two daughters, Desiree and Kayla, of Highlands Ranch. Bob loved to spend time on the family ranch and the family spent many weekends there. Bob loved golf, music and outdoor adventures. He could name the title of a Grateful Dead song after one bar! Bob had a great sense of humor and never took himself too seriously. Above all he never found fault with anyone and was always the first one to comfort others when he saw that they were in need. His countless friends are a testament to his kindness and interest in others. Bob is survived by his wife Angela, step-daughters Desiree and Kayla, his mother Leahbeth, his two brothers Duane and Chuck, nephews Robbie and Jack, his niece Leah and sister-in law Laurie. He was preceded in death by his father Duane. There will be a Memorial Service held Monday, April 7 at 10:00 AM in the Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 5303 E. County Line Road, Centennial 80122. Immediately following the service, a reception will be held at his mother's home, 9232 Bauer Court, Lone Tree 80124. In a manner keeping with his love of the mountains, Bob will have his ashes scattered at the headwaters of the Colorado River in the same location his Father's ashes were scattered forty-eight years ago. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the American Cancer Society: 2255 S. Oneida St. Denver, Colorado 80224 A Memorial Fund for the benefit of Angela and her daughters has been established at Bank of the West.
