Rita Wells

Rita Winner Wells passed away peacefully surrounded by family after a courageous battle with dementia on January 5, 2022. She was born in Middletown, NY on December 16, 1928, to Gaylord Winner and Ruth Mueller Winner.  She moved to Colorado with her husband in 1985.

Rita retired from a long-time position with the Orange County Health Department in Middletown, New York before moving to Colorado. She was active in a variety of Heather Gardens Community (Aurora, Colorado) civic organizations and an avid bridge player during the many years she lived there.  At Someren Glenn Senior Living facility she was an active participant in community activities and a friend to many. She will be sadly missed by all there.

Rita was preceded in death by her husband Red (Donald R. Wells, Sr.)  and her daughter Cathy Wells. She is survived by her children Donald R. Wells, Jr. and his wife, Pat, of Middletown, New York, Frank Wells and his wife, Marsha, in New York, Terry Wells of Boston, Massachusetts, and Nancy Sweet and her husband, Lloyd F. Sweet, Jr., of Centennial, Colorado. She is also survived by five grandchildren including Jessie Sweet (Henry Paepke) of Brighton, Colorado and Katie Sweet (Bruce DeRoo) of Centennial, Colorado, Kelli Wells, of Port Jervis, New York and Christopher Wells (Wendy) of Middletown, New York, Yvonne Conrow (J.C. Conrow) of Delmar, New York and 9 great grandchildren. Rita also is survived by many nephews and nieces, including Joann Guattery of Salida, Colorado.

Interment will be at Horan McConaty Cremation Gardens in Centennial, Colorado. A celebration of Rita’s life will be held at a later date.
