Richard "Rick" Wiley

April 2, 1957 — March 19, 2023

Lone Tree

Richard “Rick” Hugh Wiley (65) passed away in Orange County, California on March 19, 2023 while he and his wife, Michelle, were visiting three of their children. Born April 2, 1957 in Nuremberg, Germany to Colonel Hugh and Mabel (Rouse) Wiley, Rick was a beautiful presence: kind, simple and most of all loving. In 1972 after his father’s many military location assignments, his parents and their five children (Rick being the second), eventually settled in Englewood, Colorado. Rick graduated from Cherry Creek High School in 1975 and went on to study Biology at Colorado State University where he completed his undergraduate studies. From there he pursued a different path, earning his accounting degree and becoming a Certified Public Accountant.

Rick started his career at KPMG assisting clients in the Manufacturing and Financial Services industries and then went on to work for his favorite client, Samsonite. While cultivating relationships with colleagues and others around the world, he eventually became Samsonite’s CFO and retired in 2009. When Rick reflected on his rewarding career, he was proud that he brought a sense of shared successes, integrity, transparency, creativity, and vision to the corporate world.

Despite his many business accomplishments, Rick took greatest pride in his four children and two grandchildren. Never one to miss a party, he regularly and happily rolled out the red carpet to celebrate their graduations, birthdays, sacraments and wedding. He was a sounding board when his children needed one, a consummate cheerleader for each of them, their own personal financial advisor and even a friendly critic ensuring that all sides of an issue were properly evaluated. His children will always remember his easy humor, his ability to guide them without judgement, and his belief in all that they did.

Rick was an active member of Castle Pines Country Club and an avid golf enthusiast who found happiness and peace on the golf course. He made countless cherished memories with his friends on golf courses around the world, including the historic courses in Scotland. He loved to travel with friends and family, always finding an opportunity to spend time with them wherever that may be. Rick was a best-in-class host and entertainer who enjoyed BBQs and celebrations with family and friends at his home in Lone Tree, Colorado,

Rick is survived by his wife of 26 years, Michelle Renna Wiley. He is survived by his ex-wife and friend Linda Lane (Bill) and his children Madelyn Wiley Boyle (Colin), Richard “Luc” Wiley, Julia Wiley and Olivia Wiley. He is survived by his siblings Debra Wiley Kahn (Richard), Ronald Wiley (Isabel), Cynthia Wiley and Sandra Wiley. He is also survived by his grandchildren Hudson and Callahan, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and a great nephew. He was preceded in death by his loving parents.
