Richard was born August 6, 1935 in Wilder, Idaho. His father was Grover Cleveland Beal. His mother was Ethel Alice (Earwood) Beal. He was the 7th child and the youngest of the family who have all preceded him in death. At the time of his birth, his father was a rancher in the area called Arena Valley near Wilder. Five brothers were in the military during World War II.
His brothers were Lewis Arthur Beal, Dale Earwood Beal, Jesse Harold Beal, Robert Eugene Beal, and Donald Wayne Beal. His only sister was Verda Marie (Beal) Fisher.
Richard (Dick) Beal graduated from high school in Grandview, Idaho in 1953. He moved to Bend to take a job with his brother who worked at the Brooks Canlon saw mill. His first job was on the night shift in the saw mill at seventy nine cents an hour. After serving a probationary period he got a ten cent an hour increase.
Shortly thereafter he and a friend from Bend joined the Marine Corps and were assigned to MCRD, San Diego, California for basic training. During that time he qualified for Naval Cadet training in Pensacola, Florida.
Due to Marine Corp rules he had to wait 16 months before entering flight school. He was also asked to train for a new Marine Corp program that was initiated. He was returned to civilian status and assigned to training in the Iga District of Japan as a contractor. The program was later abandoned by the Marine Hierarchy.
He was a published author, using the name R.C. Beale with four books related to and dwelling on the history of the Death Master regimen.
The Ultimatum, The Legacy, The Supremacy, and The Identity, were all novels of historical fiction. He often liked to comment that movies of the similar titles had nothing on him.
He owned and operated Sunriver Janitorial and Captain Clean, LLP, in Sunriver for 36 years. He was also a licensed real estate broker in Sunriver for many years.
He married Maureen Mae Misner in Bend on October 19, 1958 at the First United Methodist Church in Bend, Oregon.
She survives. They have two daughters, Dawn Renee Beal who was born at St. Charles in Bend in 1960 and Sydney Joyce (Beal) Martin, also born at St. Charles in Bend in 1963. He has one granddaughter, Camille Dawn (Martin) Woomer and one grandson, Bryan Todd Martin.
He owned and operated a Power Clean business which was changed to Captain Clean when he bought a franchise for Bozeman, Montana in 1972. He was under contract to Chet Huntley after he retired from NBC News and started the Big Sky Project. When Chet Huntley died of lung cancer, he sold the business and moved to Boise, Idaho and started another business called Captain Clean Restoration Services.
He sold that business in 1983 and then built and operated a drive-in restaurant in Mountain Home, Idaho called the Tiger Den. He sold that after a short time and then moved back to Bend and settled his business interests in Sunriver; retiring on September 1, 2015.
He was very proud of the fact that the Beal name came from the Gothic word Bael, which is alleged to be the oldest surname known to man. His mother's family has been traced to the 6th century and tied to the Argyle Family, clan McGlochlin and clan Gilfillen. His father always told him that he was a direct descendant of Rob Roy McGregor.
Richard was a born again Christian thanks to Reverend Bill Graham and his crusade at Civic Center in Portland, Oregon many years ago. He always said marrying his wife and walking down to the infield at this particular Crusade was the high point of his life. He was also a life member of The Knights Templar. He will be cremated and ashes laid to rest in Deschutes Memorial Gardens in the family plots.
