Richard Hogarth Carlson

Richard H. Carlson, age 77, of Denver, Colorado passed away early on Thanksgiving morning, November 23, 2023.  Richard “Rick” was born in Denver to Dr. Robert G. Carlson & Jean Caverhill Hogarth Carlson on September 18, 1946. He was the youngest of four children. Rick triumphed over health problems since birth, to live a fulfilling life.

He attended grade schools in Denver, and at the Topeka, KS Army Air Base and Ft. McClellan Army Base in Anniston, AL where his father served as a doctor in the Medical Army Core. The family returned to Topeka, KS while his father trained at Menninger School of Psychiatry. Later in Denver, Rick attended Byers Junior High and then South High School, where he played the flute in the concert and marching bands until he graduated in 1965.

Rick attended Doane College (University) in Crete NE for two and one-half years, before he returned to Denver. After earning his real estate license he served with the Denver Board of Realtors in 1973 until enrolling at Metropolitan State College (University) of Denver where he completed his Bachelor of Science Degree in 1974.

Rick started working part-time in the Computer Services Department of Metro College in late 1974 through 1976 until he was promoted to Information Technology Technician, a position he held full-time until his retirement in 2003.

Rick was preceded in death by his grandparents, George and Myrtle Hogarth as well as his parents Robert G. & Jean C. Carlson, a sister Karin Jean Carlson and a brother Robert R. Carlson.

He is survived by his brother, Stephen G. Carlson (Diane Vyhnalek) and sister-in-law Wendy Carlson, nieces Erika Warzel (Zach), Mallory Carlson (Andrew Stone), and nephew Daniel R. Carlson (Laura), great-niece Corrina and great-nephews Rye, Spencer, Miles and Owen.

A private family service will be held at Ft. Logan National Cemetery.
