Richard D. Smith, 76, of Arvada passed away July 30, 2023 after a short battle with cancer and fighting with all his grit and determination to overcome injuries following an accident. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Maria Smith, daughters Carrie (Jason) Garnett, Casey (Sean) Bambei and six amazing grandchildren, Makena Bambei, Carson Garnett, Kailee Bambei, Cooper Garnett, Chloe Garnett and Kamryn Bambei. Also survived by his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Dick was born July 14, 1947 in Pueblo Colorado where he lived until moving to Boulder to attend the University of Colorado. He graduated with an accounting degree and worked for Arthur Anderson accounting firm for 10 years before moving to the private sector. He joined Hathaway Corporation, now Allied Motion, as CFO. He rose to CEO before retiring in 2013 after 30 years. Dick will be remembered for his hard work and dedication, but his true legacy will always be the love he gave his family and friends. Carrie and Casey were his absolute pride and the six grandkids his pure joy. He loved watching them play sports and cheering them on, traveling and sharing adventures with all the family whether traveling to faraway places or sitting in the backyard listening to them talk. Dick loved to play tennis, golf and recently pickleball but what he loved most of all was taking a morning walk on the beach in Maui holding Maria's hand. He was a selfless, giving and generous person, never needing to be acknowledged for his thoughtfulness. He touched everyone he met with his strength and kindness and was endearingly known as the "Captain". So, we will cry because it's over but smile because we had you. You are always in our hearts; we are never going to be alone.
