Born into Life June 25, 1936 - Born into Eternal Life on May 17, 2025, Raquel passed peacefully surrounded by her family. Beloved wife of Gordon. Loving mother and step-mother of Denise Alcalá (Robert Davidson), Michaelena Moore (Robert), Teresa Swanson, Richard Alcalá , Laura LaRosa (James), Mitchell (Kathryn) Alcalá , Debbie Brimmerman, Bernie Bishop, Richard (Sheri) Bishop, Mark Bishop, Rob (Wendy) Bishop, Maria Johnson (Ken). Dear sister of Arturo Sanchez. Dearest grandmother of 29, great grandmother of 27, great great grandmother of 2 and aunt to many nieces and nephews. Raquel was preceded in death by her children Paul Alcalá , Gordon Bishop Jr., (Debbie), Mike Brimmerman, Randall Bishop, and David Easton. Dear sisters Celia, Virginia, and Aurora, friend and father of her seven children, Paul Alcalá.
Raquel was a devout Roman Catholic dedicated to serving her church and helping others. She donated to St. Loyola church and the Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, Fathers and Brothers of Maryknoll, The Missionaries of Charity - Mother Teresa and volunteered at the Mullen Home and The Denver Rescue Mission.
She possessed many skills and occupations throughout her life including arts and crafts instructor, draftsperson, and medical records copier.
In Raquel's younger years, she was very adventurous, riding motorcycles, sky diving and even hang gliding. She loved to travel, visiting over a dozen countries. Raquel also had artistic talents. She enjoyed drawing, painting, and calligraphy. She played softball with the Denver Peaches and in the Huntsman World Senior Games until she was 85. In church, softball and travel she met some incredible friends. Raquel touched many lives and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 13120 E. Kentucky Ave., Aurora, CO.
The family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. until time of mass.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Raquel's name to Denver Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
