It is with heavy hearts that the family of Randy Koepsell announces his passing on May 5, 2024, surrounded by loving family members. Randy was a vibrant, larger-than-life man who never met a stranger. He was always more than willing to help and mentor others. Randy always made everyone feel special and welcome with his excited hellos and his exuberant bear hugs. He was a brilliant man with a technical brain, and a walking encyclopedia of knowledge about anything and everything. During his eight-month journey with an aggressive glioblastoma brain tumor that paralyzed the right side of his body, he remained cheerful and positive, always saying, “It is what it is.”
Born in Shawano, WI on January 21, 1958, Randy was always a curious child and began taking apart the family’s electronic devices to see how they worked at an early age. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin Madison in 1980 with a degree in Mining Engineering. While on a UW Hoofer’s ski trip, he met his wife of 44 years, Megan Reilly Koepsell. During his 35-year career as an engineer and geology technical advisor with Schlumberger Oil Field Services, he developed and collaborated on several patents for the oil and gas industry. After retiring in 2015, he decided to pursue his lifelong passion for photography, becoming a very successful and well-respected landscape photographer at art shows around the country. Never one to shy away from a challenge, Randy decided to specialize in acrylic prints, learning how to create his own products from start to finish, resulting in stunning prints. He prided himself on having, “A Vibrant View of the World.”
Whether working with Schlumberger or as a photographer, Randy loved to mentor others. Whereas many people might keep their knowledge and secrets for success to themselves, Randy willingly shared information and tips to help all his competitors become more successful.
Besides his wife Megan, Randy leaves three children who he loved and of whom he was very proud: Christopher (and Jessica) Koepsell of Bellingham, WA, Caitlin (and Kurt Voltmann) Koepsell of Bellingham, WA, and Jared (and Meghan O’Connor) Koepsell of Englewood, CO, as well a grandson, Reed Voltmann. He also leaves a sister, Kathy (and John) Buss. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arnold and Sylvia (Kohls) Koepsell.
Randy will be missed by virtually everyone who knew him since he was such a genuine, caring person.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Randy on Monday, July 15th from 3:00pm-7:00pm at Horan McConaty South Metro/Centennial, 5303 E. County Line Rd., Centennial, CO, 80122.
