Randall Martin Case

Rand Case passed away on May 18, 2020 surrounded by his loving family.  He was born April 15, 1942 to the late Douglas and Laura Case.  He is predeceased by his parents and his sister, Caroline Case. He is survived by his adoring wife Susan, sons Scott, Brad (Shannon), step daughters Rebecca (Wade), Elizabeth (Rickardo), eight grandchildren, his brother Steve, and former wife Nancy Kiernan Case.

Rand graduated from the Naval Academy in 1965 and served five years as a nuclear submarine officer.  He attended the University of Denver Law School and practiced oil and gas law with Poulson Odell and Peterson, LLC for his entire career. An active member and long time trustee of the Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation, he served as its thirty sixth president.  

For 30 years Rand generously donated his time as legal advisor to the Alpine Rescue Team.  He was a long-serving member of the Project Sanctuary Board of Directors and a champion for the mission of helping military families heal from the challenges of service to our nation. The annual "Rand Case Volunteer Award” was given for the first time in 2021.    

After participating in competitive crew at the Naval Academy he rediscovered his passion for rowing 25 years ago at the Rocky Mountain Rowing Club.  Rand competed  in many national and international masters rowing events.

His greatest joy was spending time with his family and he loved introducing his grandchildren to the wonders of the outdoors.  Rand was an avid outdoorsman enjoying skiing, hiking, fly fishing, camping, hunting, and being in the mountains.  In 2014 Rand and Susan established “Case Camp" and each summer their family spends time in a national park or the mountains enjoying outdoor activities and time together.  It is a treasured time for the Case family.

Rand was a kind and caring man who was deeply loved, highly respected and greatly admired.

A memorial service is scheduled at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 11, 2021 at Horan & McConaty, located at 11150 East Dartmouth Ave. (at Parker Road) Aurora, CO 80014. In the interest of safety and concern for all, the family requests that masks be worn.
