Professor Lupe Martinez, Ph.D.

Professor Lupe Martinez, Ph.D., Metropolitan State University, passed away October 11, 2026, at age 86. Lupe lived a long and adventurous life. He was a life-long educator and learner. For thirty years, he was a dedicated and passionate professor in Metro’s Elementary Education and Literacy Department. He traveled widely and spoke at professional conferences internationally and throughout the US. After his retirement, Lupe was honored to serve as an Emeritus Professor in the CU Succeed Program where he taught in local high schools.

He sought to improve the world through education and increased awareness of history and the world around us. Until shortly before his passing, he was fully engaged with life and with his students (“my young scholars” as he said).

Lupe will be missed by many friends, former colleagues, students and his family.

He is survived by his devoted wife of many years, Linnea Wilkinson; his three sons Michael (Maria), Anthony (Elizabeth) and Ramon; his five grandchildren, two great grandsons, four stepchildren and eight step grandchildren.

Services pending.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Lupe’s name to Metro State University, Department of Elementary Education and Literacy or to the Aurora Animal Shelter.
