November 18, 1933 — January 7, 2026

Lakewood

Phyllis Jean Striegnitz, age 92, of Golden, CO, passed peacefully, surrounded by family, on January 7, 2026. She was born November 18, 1933, in Gary, Indiana, the daughter of Alex and Eleanor (Ceasare) Schulze.

After graduating from high school, Phyllis joined the Air Force from July 15, 1952, to January 30, 1955, and was based at Ellington Air Force Base in Texas. After serving her country, she married Richard Striegnitz, her devoted husband of 41 years.

Phyllis and Richard followed family to Colorado, raising children Mark and Lisa, in North Denver. They were both driven to hard work and built a small portfolio of rental homes, putting in manual labor after work and on weekends to work toward their dreams. Few could paint a room quicker or as flawlessly as Phyllis.

Phyllis was a long-time employee of the Colorado Division of Wildlife, where she earned the nickname “Radar” from her boss for her attention to detail and for anticipating what was needed before it was asked for.

Outside of work, they enjoyed fishing and camping as a family.

After retiring, Richard and Phyllis enjoyed trips to Myrtle Beach, SC, and to other parts of the country to visit family. After Richard’s passing in 1998, she started volunteering at the Golden Visitor’s Center, became a frequent cinema patron, and always enjoyed meals out with family or friends. She became a world traveler, taking tours in Europe, cruises in the Caribbean, and a trip to South Africa to visit Lisa and her family. In her later retirement, she became a fitness enthusiast, played a competitive game of bingo, and discovered her passion for coloring with colored pencils. Her kind nature brought her many friends throughout her life and in the retirement communities where she resided.

Phyllis is survived by her children, Mark Striegnitz and Lisa Woldow (Ric); four grandchildren, Theodore Striegnitz, Anastasia Striegnitz, Anna Batts (Brad), and Allan Woldow (Darci); and five great-grandchildren, AliceRose, Amelia, Gustav, Griffynn, and Felicity. Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband Richard Striegnitz; her parents; brothers, Ronald and Howard; sister, Elaine Blomquist; and daughter-in-law Elenny (Leni) Striegnitz.
