It is with great sadness and heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather Phil McMullen.
Phil passed away peacefully at home April 29th after a long illness. He is survived by his wife Jean, daughter Cyndi Curnow, son John McMullen and wife Teresa, six grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and two brothers, Jim (Pat) McMullen and Mac (Diana) McMullen, many nieces and nephews.
Phil was born in Kansas in 1940 and his family moved to Idledale, Colorado in 1943. He graduated Bear Creek Highschool in 1958. He married his childhood sweetheart, Jean Williams, in 1960. Phil became employed with Public Service (Xcel Energy) in 1959 where he worked until his retirement in 1997. He remained active in his retirement, working for several companies in natural gas and short-haul truck driving. He retired for good in 2018.
Phil had many hobbies, but his life-long passion was flying. He became a licensed pilot in 1967 and an instructor in 1968. He flew mail between Denver and Chicago on weekends for many years and he also flew hunters to Cabela’s in Nebraska to get gear for hunting season back when there was only one Cabela’s. He and Jean loved to fly from Centennial airport to Greely for day jaunts for either breakfast or lunch and then fly back.
In addition to flying, Phil loved camping, hunting, fishing and travelling. He was a very dedicated family man and enjoyed doing things that involved his family. He never took issue with helping anyone anytime they needed help. He was a jack of all trades and a true fountain of knowledge. There was seldom a question from someone with a problem that Phil didn’t have the answer for, from plumbing to building, car problems, appliance problems, you name it, he could fix it.
You will be missed so much and thought of with so much love each and every day. You truly were one of a kind.
Please share memories and condolences with Phil's family by signing the guestbook.
