Peter Locke Bugbee

October 14, 1946 — March 13, 2024

Peter Locke Bugbee, affectionately known to his grandchildren as “Poppy Peter”, passed away on March 13, 2024 in Denver, Colorado at the age of 77 following a hard fought battle with cancer. Peter, only child to parents Dot and Richard Bugbee, was born on October 14th, 1946 in Brattleboro, Vermont. True to his home state, Peter was stubborn, lovable, passionate, unaffected by cold temperatures, able to drive in any and all conditions, and always prepared to wait out a snow storm.

A proud Eagle Scout, Peter was the definition of hardwork and dedication. After graduating from Boston University with a B.S. and M.S. in Public Relations, he began working as a Management Consultant for Towers Perrin in the Boston office. By 1986 he was promoted to Principal and asked to open and lead the new Towers Perrin office in Denver, CO. In 1996 Peter left Towers Perrin and started his own management consulting firm, Higher Ground Associates, never officially “retiring”.

An avid skier and self proclaimed “car nut” Peter embraced life’s adventures to the fullest, while also slowing down to appreciate life’s small joys and routines on his daily early morning drive to the local coffee shop. Beyond his passions, his heart truly belonged to his family and friends. He adored spending time with his children & their spouses, grandchildren, and life partner, building a life filled with laughter and adventure. Peter also had a vast network of friends whom he created lifelong bonds with and cherished them as members of his extended family.

Peter’s generosity extended beyond his immediate circle. He supported many organizations, driven by a belief in the power of giving and the impact it could have on the world. His legacy is not just one of personal joy and adventure but of a profound generosity that touched the lives of many, inspiring those around him to live with open hearts and embrace the beauty of giving, family, and friendship.

Peter is survived by his partner, Josephine “Jo” Brogus; children, Kristin (James) Hathorn and Andrew Bugbee; and, grandchildren, Charleigh Hathorn and Callan Hathorn. Peter is also survived by his former wife Nancy Markham and numerous extended family members and friends.

Peter was preceded in death by his parents, Dot and Richard Bugbee; beloved daughter, Megan Bugbee; and former in-law’s Clifford and Margaret Markham.

Celebration of life details are pending.
