Penelope Ann (McTaggart) Christman (1945 - 2024)
Penelope Ann (McTaggart) Christman, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 10, 2024. Born on May 24, 1945 in Butler, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of Lt. Col. William (Mac) McTaggart and Ruth McTaggart.
Penni's early life was shaped by her father's military career. She spent her youth in Pennsylvania alongside her brothers, William Jr. (Tag) and Tom McTaggart. While their father served during the Korean War, he was captured and was a POW. The family's military life continued with assignments in Germany and Turkey before settling at Wright Patterson Air Force Base upon her father's retirement.
Penni graduated from the University of Dallas and later pursued teaching credentials at Wright State University. In 1970, she embarked on a new chapter, moving to Denver, Colorado, where she began her teaching career as a second-grade teacher in Jefferson County Schools.
A twist of fate brought love into her life in 1971. She met Joel and they were married in 1972. Joel’s work with Caterpillar brought them to Belem, Brazil, where their twin sons, Jason and Jamie, were born.
Returning to Denver with their growing family, Penni and Joel built a life in their Sundance Hills home, welcoming Justin and Joel T to complete their family. Their home became a haven, filled with the delicious aromas of Penni's cooking and the laughter of loved ones. She was actively involved in neighborhood activities, book clubs, and bridge games.
Beyond her dedication to her family, Penni possessed a vibrant spirit and a knack for bringing people together. She successfully ran a catering business and later an event planning agency. Her passion for service led her to work with the Hemophilia Society and Regis High School as a fundraiser.
Giving back to the community was a cornerstone of Penni's life. She volunteered her time and boundless energy to causes close to her heart, including Children's Hospital, St. Thomas More Catholic Church, and various other charities.
Penni cherished her 52 years of marriage to Joel and reveled in family celebrations filled with their sons, daughters-in-law, and 12 grandchildren. She had a love of travel which provided many opportunities to see the world. Her legacy lives on in the memories of those who loved her infectious smile, her famous chocolate chip cookies, and the warmth of her presence.
