Peggy Jo Hawkins (Pegg), beloved and caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister took her place in heaven in Friday, June 6th, 2025 at 9:15 am at her home in Arvada, Colorado. Pegg was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on March 1, 1941. She is preceded in death by her parents, Russell and Francis (Henry) Kline. She grew up in Tulsa and graduated from Webster High School in 1959. After school she worked in retail and as a nursing assistant. She was introduced by her brother Russell to his college roommate, Edward Hawkins (Ed), the love of her life. They were married on January 27,1961. While Ed completed college Pegg worked at a hospital kitchen until she became pregnant with her first child, Valerie, who was born on October 25, 1961. She was followed by Michael who was born on March 12, 1964. The family moved from Tulsa to Sacramento, California in 1964to Rockville, Maryland in 1973 and toArvada, Colorado in 1983. As the family grew and began school, Pegg began working in a credit union where she eventually was promoted to Manager. In 1976 she chose to pursue her life-long dream and entered nursing school at Montgomery College in Takoma, Park, Maryland, becoming a Registered Nurse in 1979. She practiced nursing in Maryland and later in Colorado until taking in her oldest granddaughter in 1989. Later she returned to nursing, focusing on Psychiatric Nursing. During this time she also began studying and attending classes in Pastoral Clinical Care, subsequently earning certification as an Associate Chaplain. She practiced chaplaincy until health forced her to retire in 2008. After retirement Pegg volunteered as Congregation Chaplain for Valley Heights Christian Church and briefly, as Congregation Nurse for South Broadway Christian Church
Nothing was ever more important to Pegg than her family and she treasured each moment with them. She is survived by her husband Ed, two children, Valerie Hawkins, who has three children: Kristina Mendoza, Heather Springer, and Bryan Springer, and Michael Hawkins (Chris Radcliffe) and his two children Aubrey Lindsey (Justin) and Brandon (Rachael O’Bannon) Hawkins. She has five great-grandchildren: Orion, Kollin, Delayna, Gearld, and Mariah, and by her brother, Russell Kline.
A Celebration of Life service will take place on Friday, June 13, 2025l at 11:00 am, at South Broadway Christian Church, 23 North Lincoln Street, Denver, Co, 80203, A reception will immediately follow the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that tributes be sent to The Colorado Christian Home, Tennyson Center for Children.
