Native Coloradan, Paul Spurgeon was born in Greeley and died at the age of 72 at his home in Thornton. He was the younger son of Bertha and Charles Spurgeon. He graduated from Adams City High School, and on October 8, 1961, he married Constance Kay Keister. Together they built a family of three children and six grandchildren. Paul was a member of Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Broomfield for fourteen years, serving as council president, head of the building committee, and a generous and faithful believer. Paul loved spending time with his family, especially his grandkids, gardening, jigsaw puzzles, reading, and traveling. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Connie, their three children and their spouses - Karen & Randy, Paul & Cindy, Jenny & Steve; and his six beloved grandchildren - Megan, Ashley, Lindsey, Stephanie, Joshua, and Landon. He is also remembered by other family members, such as his uncle Lloyd Thomas, and his cousin, Roger Thomas, as well as a multitude of dear friends. Paul was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Paula, his mother, Bertha, and his brother, Phil. Paul's career was spent as a Denver firefighter. He joined the Denver Fire Department in July 1964. He attained several promotions, including Assistant Chief in 1981 and Division Chief 1986, a position he held until his retirement in 1996. Services to honor and remember Paul will be held on Friday, December 19, 2014 at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church, 12099 Lowell Blvd., Broomfield, CO at 11:00 a.m., with a reception to follow at the church.
