Patricia Jane Mckeever

Patricia Jane McKeever, 96, from Centennial, Colorado, slipped away on new year’s eve 2022. Pat or Granny Pat as she was known to her beloved grandchildren, enjoyed a rich life full of love, laughter and travel adventures.

Born July 26, 1926 in Kansas City, MO, to Ralph Merton Hewins and Esther Cora Hewins (Freeman), Pat spent her formative years enjoying summers with friends and family on Lake Lotawana, MO. Later, after moving to Denver Colorado with a close friend, Pat would meet future husband Eugene (Gene) McKeever at a New Year’s Eve party.

Pat and Gene were married in 1962 and then began their family in 1964 with Heather Jean and then Andrea Jane in 1965. The McKeevers spent the next several decades living in southwest Denver. After the tragic loss of her husband in 1977, Pat continued to single-handedly raise her two daughters. Later, she moved to Centennial to be closer to her grandkids. For over 50 years Pat worked primarily as a legal and banking secretary and additionally volunteered her time as church secretary until her retirement at age 80. Pat was sought out for her administrative support abilities as she was quite skilled at short-hand dictation.

Granny Pat was the last surviving member of her “Rowdy Bunch” group of friends, who met monthly celebrating birthdays at each other's homes. No gifts were exchanged, only good meals and a variety of risqué cards were given to the birthday member. This monthly treat was one of Pat’s most cherished set of life events.

Generally of good health, Pat was an avid walker up into her late 80s. She struggled in the past few years with painful osteoarthritis which kept her bedridden in the end.

Although born in the depression era Pat dreamed of worldly travel and she took many trips to her beloved England, Scotland and Nova Scotia. Her “final” trip was scheduled for Italy, scheduled to depart on September 11 ,2001. But, due to the events of the day, she was never able to take her last trip.

Her ancestry is marked by settlers in the Boston Massachusetts area in the late 1700s along with famous landscape artist Amasa Hewins. Pat is survived by her daughters Andrea Jane, Heather Jean, son in law Will, and her grandchildren Taylor Jamison McKeever, Alyssa Whitney and Chloe Wynne. Memorial services will take place Saturday 10:30 AM, January 21, 2023 at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, 8545 East Dry Creek Road, Centennial, CO, 80112.
