On May 3, 2024, Patricia Agnes Higgins Green passed away following a brief illness. She was surrounded by family—son John Green, daughters Alice Green and Trish Green and her sons-in-law, Nick White and Jack Fernandez.
Born January 20, 1930, in Newark, New Jersey Patricia led a full and interesting life. She attended Our Lady of Good Council High School in Newark and graduated from Chestnut Hill College in Philadelphia, PA in 1951.
From there she worked a stint with the Central Intelligence Agency based out of the Empire State Building in adjacent New York City. While living in Newark, she met her future husband, Richard “Dick” James Green via an introduction by her sister Jane Ellen.
Patricia and Dick married on October 7, 1957 at Our Lady of Good Council during a Nor’easter. Following a brief honeymoon, they resided for a time in Woodbury, New Jersey. They moved to Washington DC in 1962 where Patricia was a full-time mother of two until her son Richard (now deceased) was born and later her daughter Trish.
As the children got older, she also worked as an elementary school teacher for several years. Patricia was active in her community and was a founding member of the Penn-Branch Citizens Association.
As time went on, she was able to travel internationally with her husband visiting among other places France, Italy, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the UK and Israel. She enjoyed these trips immensely. She also accompanied her husband when he had the opportunity to teach in Golden, Colorado and Laramie, Wyoming.
Although she absolutely loved living in Washington, DC and taking advantage of all it had to offer, her children convinced her to move to Denver several years after Dick passed away. In 2015 she moved to Denver to live full time. Again, she was able to take advantage of all the area had to offer, also spending time at Trish and Nick’s home and getting a taste of ranch life on visits with Alice and Jack. She also enjoyed many visits from John and her grandson, James and daughter-in-law, Myriam.
Her lively conversations over a Bombay Sapphire gin martini or double Dewars, about all things political, will be greatly missed! She had a great memory and sense of history, always providing context to current events.
