It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Nicholas (Nick) Reisdorff, a man of integrity and intelligence. Nick was born on June 2nd, 1967, in Elk Grove, IL, and passed on to the next life on March 22nd, 2026, in Lone Tree, Colorado. In his 58 years, he touched the lives of many people with his wisdom, humor, and leadership.
He had an insatiable thirst for knowledge and was a lifelong learner and teacher. He had a passion for adventure and unparalleled curiosity. This spirit was what led Nick to become both a graduate of the United States Military Academy and Harvard University, and propelled him across countless continents and countries.
Nick had an exceptional military career in the US Army and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. He was an expert on China. He served as a US diplomat to China and advised US generals, secretaries, and even presidents. After his retirement from the military, he managed complex engineering projects worth millions of dollars as project manager. He loved to serve others and solve hard problems.
Nick was truly a Renaissance man. He was a voracious reader and a lover of all things science fiction and fantasy. He loved rock music and impressionist painters. He loved his country, his family, his pets, and his friends. His plethora of interests was truly a reflection of the depth of his soul, and everyone who talked with him always learned something.
Above all, Nick loved his family very much. He was a dedicated son, brother, husband, and father. He was a devoted husband and his son’s biggest hero. Nick truly embodied always trying to choose the harder right over the easier wrong and was an inspiration to all those around him.
Nick was preceded in death by his father, Robert Reisdorff and younger brother, Nathan Reisdorff.
He is survived by his loving wife of over 30 years, Cynthia Reisdorff, his son, Noah Reisdorff (and fiancée Leah D’Astolfo), his mother, Nancy Reisdorff, his sister, Noel Schneider, two loving nephews, and a loving niece.
In lieu of flowers, we encourage you to honor Nick’s legacy of learning and teaching by seeking out new knowledge, pushing beyond the boundaries of the known, and sharing these insights with others. This, we believe, would be the best tribute to his extraordinary life. Alternatively, if you would like to make a financial contribution please consider donating to Humane Colorado in his honor.
