Nelson Blair Phelps
December 21, 1939 – June 26, 2026
Nelson Phelps, age 86, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2026. A man of quiet strength, steady devotion, and deep faith, Nelson spent his life building a legacy of love, commitment, and kindness that will forever guide his family.
Professionally, Nelson was a respected leader who served as the Executive Director of Human Resources at U S WEST, where his integrity and dedication left a lasting impact on countless colleagues throughout his career.
He was the beloved husband of Denise Phelps, with whom he shared a beautiful and enduring love story. The two were looking forward to celebrating their milestone 64th wedding anniversary this July. Together, they built a life centered on family, faith, and mutual devotion.
Nelson was a pillar of support for his loved ones, always ready with gentle guidance and a reassuring presence. He took immense pride in his family, shaping the lives of those around him through his quiet, faithful example. His memory will be cherished by all who knew him as a dedicated family man, a loyal brother, and a true friend.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Denise; his son, William Phelps and his wife Dawn; his daughter, Alexandra Phelps-Homewood and her husband Steve; his four grandchildren; and his great-grandson. He is also survived by his brother, Jeff and his wife Gayle; his Brother Thane Phelps Jr and his wife Mary; his nieces and nephews; his sister Deborah Hall; and many friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, July 3, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 4900 E Montview Blvd, Denver, CO 80207, with Father John Ludanha officiating. Following the Mass, family and friends are invited to gather for a reception and a time of sharing in Campbell Hall.
The military burial will take place on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Fort Logan National Cemetery, 3698 S Sheridan Blvd, Denver, CO 80236. This final resting date holds a beautiful significance, as it marks what would have been Nelson and Denise’s 64th wedding anniversary.
In his life, Nelson taught us the value of commitment, the comfort of presence, and the strength of faith. May he rest in the eternal peace, light, and joy of God's presence.
