Nancy Agnus Murphy

July 13, 1939 — July 11, 2024

Westminster, Colorado

Nancy A. Murphy, age 84, passed away peacefully at home in Colorado on July 11, 2024, with her daughter, Lisa, and son-in-law, Jim, by her side. Born on July 13, 1939, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Nancy's life was filled with love, dedication, and a passion for her family.

Nancy spent her childhood in Tulsa where her father worked as an attorney for Stanolind Oil and Gas Co. In 1953, Stanolind was acquired by Pan American (later becoming Amoco) which brought Nancy’s parents and siblings to Casper where Nancy attended high school and graduated from NCHS in 1957. She attended college at the University of Wyoming and soon after met the love of her life, Cornelius “Con” Murphy, at a local church event. Nancy was smitten by Con’s Irish charm while Con was captured by Nancy’s poise and beauty. They were married on June 25, 1960. Nancy and Con built a beautiful life and family together in Casper, raising four children: Michael, Mark, Brian, and Lisa. Nancy was devoted to her family. She cherished every moment spent with her loved ones and would do anything for them.

Nancy enjoyed picnics and going out to eat in Casper with her grandchildren. She had a gentle heart for animals, especially her beloved pets: dogs, cats, and birds. She enjoyed listening to music and attending concerts and live musical theater events. Nancy loved to travel, particularly on board her favorite cruise ships. Her green thumb was evident in her beautiful garden – the lilac bushes in her yard were her favorite. She loved taking long walks outdoors. Nancy was also a talented crafter, enjoying needlepoint and other creative pursuits such as painting. She was a sports fan tuning in to watch her favorite team, the Denver Broncos. Nancy enjoyed shopping malls and gift shops -- her collection of glass and porcelain collectibles were well-known among her family and friends.

Nancy played an integral role in the family ranching business, tirelessly managing the bookkeeping and administrative tasks. Her children recall her at the dining room table where she could often be found diligently working on the typewriter (she excelled in typing over 100 wpm), or on the adding machine, and sorting paperwork. Her contributions did not end there. Con trusted nobody more than Nancy to vaccinate the lambs every year on the ranch at docking. Her hard work and dedication were crucial to the success of the family ranch company.

After sustaining a hip fracture in 2018, Nancy moved and spent the last six and a half years living with her daughter, Lisa, and son-in-law, Jim, in Westminster, Colorado. Lisa and Jim were her devoted caregivers, attending to her every need and ensuring she was happy and comfortable both day and night. They provided Nancy with a warm and nurturing environment in their home and were bedside at her passing. They miss her dearly.

Nancy is survived by her four children, Michael (Melody), Mark (Angela), Brian (Angie), and Lisa (Jim); and two grandchildren, Maegan, and Brennan. She is also survived by her sister, Susan Unsworth, along with several cousins, nieces, and nephews. Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, Cornelius “Con” Murphy; her parents, Harold, and Cary “Polly” Baker; and her brother, George Baker.

A private service will be held for Nancy in Colorado, and the family will gather for a celebration of life.

Nancy's legacy of love, dedication, and devotion for her family will forever be cherished. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
