Nancy Thornton Kingdom, 92, passed away peacefully on August 7, 2026, surrounded by her family.

Nancy was born on February 14, 1934, in Boulder, Colorado, to Manford and Helen Thornton. An only child, she grew up with a lifelong love of learning and music. A gifted flautist and exceptional student, Nancy attended the University of Colorado as a Boettcher Scholar, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts with honors. She was also a proud member of Pi Beta Phi, where she formed lifelong friendships.

On August 22, 1955, Nancy married her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, Phillip Kingdom. They shared more than 54 years of marriage until Phillip’s passing in November 2009. They made their home in Plymouth, Minnesota, where they raised their family and enjoyed a close community of cherished friends and neighbors.

Nancy began her career as a teacher at Foothills Elementary School in Boulder and later worked at Dayton Hudson. She also volunteered with the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Minnesota Chapter.

Above all, Nancy was devoted to her family. She was a fierce defender, trusted advisor, and constant source of encouragement to her sons and rarely missed one of their many sporting events or musical performances. An avid bridge player, bowler and sports fan, she later became an enthusiastic golfer and ballroom dancer. Nancy was a beautiful writer often sending notes and letters to friends and loved ones.

Nancy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Phillip, and her parents, Manford and Helen Thornton. She is survived by her sons, Scott Kingdom (Therese Sipe) and Todd Kingdom (Stephanie Rudnick), both of Denver; six grandchildren, Grace Eagleton, Ellen Stults, Jackie Kingdom, Audrey Kingdom, Benjamin Kingdom, and Nathan Kingdom; and four great-grandchildren, Gemma Eagleton, Lewis Stults, Jack Eagleton, and Henry Brown.

Nancy will be remembered for her intelligence, humility, integrity, musical gifts, and deep devotion to those she loved. Her legacy lives on in the family she nurtured, the friendships she treasured, and the many lives she touched with her kindness and quiet strength.

Her family is deeply grateful for the love and care she received later in life and finds comfort in knowing that her gentle spirit will remain with them always.
