Monique Gabrielle Amerman

Dr. Monique Gabrielle Amerman, 91, passed away peacefully on April 13, 2026, in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Monique was born on June 26, 1934, to Raymond Hestin and Gabrielle (Pierrat) in Beirut, Lebanon. At the age of 12, she moved with her family to Nancy, France where she completed her primary and secondary education. While continuing her education, Monique worked as a language translator/interpreter at the U.S. Army Ordnance Depot in Nancy. It was there, she met her future husband, Gene. They were married in St. Sion, France, on August 21, 1954.

The couple came to America and settled in Gene’s hometown of Colorado Springs, Colorado. In 1956, they relocated to Pueblo, Colorado, where they lived and raised their children. While in Pueblo, Monique began her lifelong passion for education by earning her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees from Colorado College in 1963 and 1964. She was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy degree from Colorado University in 1977.

While pursuing her education, Monique began teaching French at Southern Colorado State College (Colorado State University Pueblo). Her career eventually diverted from the classroom into leadership roles. In 1981, Monique was appointed Vice President for Instruction at Pikes Peak Community College. In 1984, she was appointed Interim President. In 1986, Monique was appointed Vice President of Instruction at Pueblo Community College. She served in this capacity until 1994 when she was hired as President of Mountain View College in Dallas, Texas. She served in this capacity until her retirement in 2004. Throughout Monique’s career, she was active in numerous civic organizations including Zonta International, Rotary International, Lions International and the Pueblo and Greater Dallas Chambers of Commerce.

Monique is survived by her children, Anne-Marie Townley of Charlotte, NC, Daniel Amerman and his wife Susan of Parker, Colorado and Michael Amerman and his wife Marion of Sheridan, WY. Monique is also survived by her six grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and her brother Charles Hestin and his wife Colette as well as several nieces and nephews.
