Some people simply and quietly move through life, and then there are those whose spirit leaves an imprint so vivid, authentic and unforgettable on every individual fortunate enough to have known them. It is with deep love and heavy hearts that we share the passing of our beloved Michele Pauline Smith, whose beautiful soul left this world peacefully in her home on Friday, October 31, 2025 at the age of 67.
Michele was born on October 30, 1958 in Elgin, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her mother Margaret and father Dennis Cline, as well as her brother Robbie Robinson (survived by wife Sharon). On November 3, 1979 she married the love of her life, James H. Smith at St. Joseph Catholic church in Elgin.
She is survived by her devoted husband James, brother Mitchel Cline and her adoring children—daughter Rabecca, whom she embraced as her own, alongside her husband Chris, her son Justin, son Brandt and his wife Michelle, and daughter Alexandra alongside her husband Shaun. She was a devout grandmother to Kristin (Isaiah), Gary, Chasity (Austin), Tyler (Stephanie), Delaney, Weston, Kayden, Esperanza, Adalynn, Dylan, Emiliano and Kody. She also treasured her great grandchildren greatly, her beloved godchildren, nieces and nephews as well as her many unwaning, cherished friendships throughout her lifetime-they were her “lifers.”
She was the kind of woman whose infectious smile could light up any room and whose wit and humor would make even the most comedic individual blush. An amazing cook, truly second to none, and restaurant owner of over 18 years, she had a way of gathering people at her home with recipes everyone desired to put in their own cookbook one day.
A true artist at heart, she could transform any space into something stunning—every inch reflected her eye for beauty and knack for making any house a home. Whether through her painting, writing, drawing or her fabulous sense of style and decor, she had an effortless grace that was entirely her own. Every corner told a story, every detail intentional.
Michele also loved reading, a good game of Trivial Pursuit, dancing and music (especially anything from the 70’s or Motown); she never could resist hitting the dance floor.
She was the epitome of a raw, honest, loyal and fiery woman with unparalleled depth. Her spirit, her laughter and love will live on through all of her admirers.
