Michael Edwin “Mike” Wickey, 57, passed away with his sisters at his side, on August 15, 2025, in Denver, Colorado. He was born on May 15, 1968, in Kansas City, Missouri. Mike lived a life full of laughter, music, adventure, and deep connections with those fortunate enough to know him.

Mike attended Rockhurst High School and went on to graduate from Rockhurst College in 1990. His professional journey began in the financial sector with American Century Investments in 1992. In 1995, he transferred from the Kansas City office to Denver, Colorado, where he would make his home for the remainder of his life. After thirteen years with American Century Investments, Mike continued his career at JP Morgan Retirement Plan Services and Old Mutual Capital. He later served as an individual consultant with TIAA-CREF for fourteen years before retiring.

Throughout his life, Mike was known for his wit and humor—always ready with the perfect movie quote—and for being a kind-hearted and genuine soul. And true to his ethnicity, he might have been known for making the discreet “Irish exit” through the years. He had a gentle presence that made people feel at ease with a no-frills, easy-going nature that endeared him to many.

A proud member of Alpha Delta Gamma Fraternity, Mike cherished the friendships he formed during those years and beyond. He especially looked forward to annual camping and float trips in Missouri. One such trip in 1993 became legendary among his friends when he survived a harrowing flash flood on the Big Piney River in the middle of the night—a story retold often with disbelief and awe.

Mike’s love for travel started with many years of memorable extended family summer vacations taking him across the country and around the world. Close to home, he loved spending Sunday afternoons with extended family, playing poker and fishing on “The Land” in Bonner Springs. Whether visiting friends or attending concerts, he embraced every opportunity to explore new places. His furthest adventure brought him all the way to Japan to visit a childhood friend. A passionate music lover, Mike especially enjoyed live performances, most notably at Red Rocks Amphitheater, Madison Square Garden in NYC, St Augustine Amphitheater, and The Sphere in Las Vegas. Among his favorite bands were Rush, U2, Widespread Panic, and Phish—the latter of which he saw approximately 88 times in concert.

Sports were another lifelong passion for Mike. He visited numerous Major League Baseball stadiums and was a devoted fan of his hometown teams—the Kansas City Royals and Kansas City Chiefs. Many memories were made with close friends and family attending games with them. He also attended a Formula One race in Indianapolis, always eager to experience the thrill of live sporting events.

Mike is lovingly remembered by his sisters Kathleen Bishop (and her husband Mark) and Andrea Jenkins (and her husband Michael), as well as by numerous uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, and two great-nephews—who will all miss him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Frances Wickey and Gerard Thomas Wickey, and his maternal grandparents, Edwin and Frances Borserine and paternal grandparents, Harold and Mary Wickey.

A service and celebration of Michael’s life will be held at a later date in Kansas City, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society at www.donate.cancer.org.

May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and were fortunate enough to be a part of his life, experience his smile, kind nature and gentle spirit.
