Obituary

Michael John Motis passed away peacefully with his wife and stepson by his side on Sunday, February 8, 2026, at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Lakewood, Colorado. He was 69 years old.

Mike was born on June 9, 1956, in Greeley, Colorado, to Daniel John and Billie Jeanne (Goff) Motis. He grew up in Greeley with his brother, Kevin, and sister, Cheryl. At Greeley West High School, Mike was active in the National Honor Society, swimming and baseball and played clarinet in the marching band, eventually serving as drum major—a role that reflected his natural leadership.

After high school, Mike volunteered with the Westerly Hills Volunteer Fire Department. He became an EMT, later serving as an EMT field instructor, and went on to be among Colorado’s first paramedics. His commitment to caring for others led him to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Northern Colorado. As a flight nurse with Air Life in Greeley, he found the perfect blend of adventure and service, combining his love of flying with his dedication to helping people in critical moments.

Later in life, Mike drove semi-trucks along Colorado’s Front Range. He was awarded driver of the year several times for his company. Whether in the air or on the road, he took great pride in being steady, careful, and dependable.

In 2010, Mike met Jill Bluhm, who became the love of his life. They were married on October 20, 2012, in Golden, Colorado. Together they enjoyed working on their home and traveling. Cruises with family, and trips to Alaska and Ireland, were among their favorites. Wherever they went, Mike was proud to be the safe driver.

Mike had a creative side and enjoyed working with his hands whether woodworking or building detailed models of helicopters, airplanes, and the semi-trucks he once drove. He had a deep interest in World War II history and watched countless documentaries. He loved the show M*A*S*H and was a devoted fan of the Harry Potter movies. Like his father, he had a sweet tooth and especially looked forward each year to Dan’s homemade peanut brittle and fudge at Christmas.

Mike is survived by his wife, Jill; his sons from his first marriage, Andy (Zach) and Stephen (Megan); his stepson, Kyle Daniels; his father, Daniel (Helen) Motis; his sister, Cheryl Lookhart; his sister-in-law, Pauline Motis; and his grandchildren, Emaleigh Motis, Zoe Green, and Kellani Motis.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Billie Jeanne (Goff) Motis, and his brother, Kevin William Motis.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. at Horan & McConaty Funeral Home in Lakewood, Colorado. A reception will follow.
