Michael James McCoy

Michael McCoy, 83, of Westminster, Colorado, passed away peacefully, with his wife and son by his side, on March 15, 2025, after a long battle with metastatic prostate cancer and untreatable interstitial lung disease.

Born on April 26, 1941, he lived most of his childhood and school years in Wyoming. He graduated from the University of Wyoming with a B.S. in Industrial Engineering. Michael worked mostly in the Denver area as a Consulting Engineer and Lighting Expert throughout his career, making significant contributions to the utility industry. He was a pioneer in LED lighting and promoting LED technology.

Michael had a passion for old trucks and was very active in the local chapters of the Rocky Mountain Military Vehicle Preservation Society and the American Truck Historical Society. He had a lifelong love of learning and was known for his generosity in sharing his knowledge and teaching others. His friendly nature and eagerness to engage in conversation led him to meet many different types of people in all walks of life. This was highlighted by his passion for Truck Shows which he and Sondra attended across the USA.

Michael is survived by Sondra, his devoted wife of 56 years; his son, Jeffrey; daughter-in-law, Stephanie; and his cherished grandchildren, Nick, Taryn, and Kali. He is also survived by his sisters Mary (Burgess) Nicolaysen, Kathy (Burgess) Bowers, brother-in-law David Bowers, numerous nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews. He will be remembered for his warmth, wisdom, devotion to family and the joy he brought to those around him.

A service will be held on April 22, 2025, at 11:00 am at Horan & McConaty Funeral Service, Thornton, Colorado. Immediately following the service, lunch will be served, and there will be an opportunity for family and friends to share memories and/or stories about Michael. The family invites all who knew Michael to join them in honoring his memory.

Michael's legacy of kindness and knowledge will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
