Michael Anthony Martinez passed away on May 15, 2026, at the age of 51. Michael was born on April 10, 1975, to Gilbert “Marty” Martinez and Dolores (Carpio) Martinez. He grew up in the Denver area and attended Denver Public Schools, graduating from North High School in 1993. Michael later attended Westwood College, where he earned an Associate Degree in Automotive Technology.
For the past 12 years Michael had served as the Deputy Manager for the City and County of Denver’s Department of Transportation and Infrastructure. He used his life experience to relate to both employee and customer alike and was a phenomenal leader and mentor.
Michael was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys, Duke Blue Devils, Denver Nuggets, Colorado Avs, Colorado Rockies, and Denver Broncos. He enjoyed fishing, hiking, biking, running and traveling. Michael also loved spending time with his family, friends, and colleagues, as well as caring for his two beloved cats, Dak Prescat and Kopi.
Above all Michaels faith in Jesus was the foundation of his life. His faith gave him strength, peace and compassion and it was reflected in the love and kindness he showed to everyone around him. Even through life’s challenges Michael trusted deeply in God and carried that faith with him every day. While his passing leaves an unimaginable void in the hearts of those who loved him, there is comfort in knowing he is now at peace in the presence of the Lord.
Michael was preceded in death by his father Marty Martinez, his grandparents Henry and Tillie Carpio, and Frank and Nica Martinez. Michael is survived by his mother, Dolores Martinez; the love of his life, Isabella Martinez; brothers Gerry Martinez of Denver, Colorado, and Marty (Patty) Martinez of Thornton, Colorado; sisters Cindy (Steve) Dorsey of Scottsburg, Indiana, Melissa (James) Baxley of Arvada, Colorado, and Amanda Makoski of Westminster, Colorado. He is also survived by six nephews, five nieces, and a host of great-nieces, great-nephews and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Michael will be remembered with love by all who knew him and by everyone whose lives were touched by his presence. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and loved ones.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 26, from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Services will be held on Wednesday, May 27, at 10:00 a.m. Both the visitation and funeral service will take place at Horan & McConaty Funeral Service and Cremation Home at 9998 Grant St. Thornton, CO.
